100% biodegradable — non-toxic — hygienic — hypoallergenic — dust-free — contaminant-free
All the mattresses manufactured and sold by Zen Beds & Sofas Brisbane are made from 100% latex rubber.
Latex is a 100% natural rubber extracted from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, and is a renewable resource mostly grown in South East Asian countries.
The natural milky juice of the rubber tree is processed to form a soft yet durable material. Uniquely, its honeycomb consistency gives the rubber a true sponge like quality, which has yet to be equaled.
INTERESTING FACT: The application of latex as a cushioning material was invented all the way back in 1928.
Latex Production: Impeccable Environmental Credentials
Latex rubber extraction is an environmentally ‘soft’ process. The latex flows from cuts in the bark of the trees and is collected in small cups from which it is regularly transferred to larger containers. Ammonia is then added to prevent bacterial decomposition.
The rubber tree plantations are carefully maintained and renewed whenever required. Research has shown that as the demand for natural rubber has increased, so has the reforestation of rubber plantations. Encouragingly this is preserving significant forest areas essential to the conservation of the earth’s biosphere.
Natural vs Synthetic:
Quite simply, latex is natural and synthetic rubber is not. Synthetic rubber can be made from a multitude of raw materials derived from substances such as coal, oil, natural gas and acetylene.
By choosing latex you are supporting the use of a renewable resource which has impeccable environmental credentials, enabling you to say that your choice of latex is better for the world around you.
The Health Benefits of a 100% Latex Mattress
Latex has extremely high natural bacteriostatic and antibacterial properties, unmatched by any other polyurethane or synthetic foam. Our 100% latex mattresses therefore are hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant.
Zen Beds & Sofas’ latex mattresses have also been orthographically designed to cater for optimal posture and lumbar support.
As well as its hygienic properties, latex is denser than synthetic rubber and therefore better retains its shape and cushioning properties. In the context of use as a mattress this consistent resilience uniformly supports the sleeper, whilst the softness of the latex provides overall comfort.
Latex is quick to recover to its original shape and any motion disturbance caused by tossing and turning is absorbed into the mattress rather than being transferred from one sleeping partner to another.
Specially moulded to breathe more freely and mould to your body shape, our 100% latex mattresses support your body uniformly. The mattress will yield to the extra pressure and shape of your hips and shoulders, providing you with the correct ‘spine in line support’ that your body needs.
