Environmental practices
In an ever growing, over-saturated world of cheap
mass produced products and global brands
Zen Natural Beds is unique.
We are guided by the concept of Kaizen: slow, constant incremental improvement, and we work tirelessly to create thoughtful timber bedding that combines style, comfort and sustainability in equal parts.
Taking care of the earth and making efforts not to be wasteful is very much part of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, and we embrace this tradition in everything we do.
Local production
From my exquisite timber bed and sofa frames to our allergy friendly mattresses, my products are 100% Australian made, with the entire manufacturing process being carried out in our woodworking dojo in Caloundra on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Sustainability
Each and every one of Zen Beds handmade beds and sofa beds is made from solid wood sourced from fully accredited plantation or sustainably harvested sources.
I only use non-toxic stains and clear coatings on every piece of timber furniture we make.
To complement the eco-friendly refined timber bed-frames, I also produce a range of certified 100% natural and organic latex mattresses and handmade Futon mattresses.
Maximum usage and efficiency of materials is achieved through careful consideration and purchasing pre-cut packs of wood to closely meet our requirements.
This practice also means there is minimum wastage, with an average of one wheelie bin of off-cuts being left over every six to eight weeks.
The Shokunin spirit is a journey towards perfection in all areas; not only having admirable technical skills and vision, but also an attitude of social conscience and giving back to the community.
One way I emulate this social conscience, whilst continually striving to reduce our environmental impact, is by working with Reverse Garbage to dispose of our timber wastage. The team of volunteers collect and sand the off-cuts, before distributing to local kindergartens for children to play with.
